June 13th, 2009 by Jon Low. Posted in ShootFest 001 | 1 Comment »
Hi guys,
During shootfest I did a demo on Lightroom 2.0 as part of my digital workflow. Now that the pressure is off, I recorded a short clip, about 10 minutes long, hopefully to illustrate the demo better, Here is the video.
p.s : My mic USB Mic konged out, and I was recording from the Mac’s default mic. Bear with the audio just a bit.

This was the shot of when all of the animals at Zoo Negara ran loose and so happened appeared out of no where in Centrepoint, Bandar Utama.

At the mean time, let me try and figure out how to allow everyone to download the high res versions of these photos.

Clipping away….

Remember what I said inspiration from movies, this is from Stephen Chow’s “From Beijing with Love” movie where he is like a James Bond spy and he modified his shoes to be a hair dryer. And there came Kaz, into the picture as JB’s girl, :D. Oh yeah, Jason did the wind effect!!

Press Release for ShootFest: The Wedding
May 13th, 2009 by Grace Tan. Posted in Latest News, ShootFest 001 | No Comments »
ShootFest: The Wedding Unconference
Date: 6th & 7th June 2009 (Saturday & Sunday). Registration starts at 9am.
Venue: Integricity office, Centrepoint Bandar Utama, PJ
Fees: RM50
So what is ShootFest: The Wedding all about? And what is an unconference?
An unconference is an informal gathering of likeminded people with a common interest. It’s a participant-driven conference, meaning everyone must participate in some way or another. Everyone is encouraged to present a topic or engage in a discussion during the 2-day sessions.
Each ShootFest is a media unconference primarily for photographers and videographers. This first one that is organised is themed The Wedding and is meant for professionals, freelancers and anyone interested in wedding photography and videography.
The benefits of ShootFests are knowledge-sharing, networking and raising the bar for the industry. The idea is to breed improvement for everyone in a friendly environment.
Our sharing slots are open to everyone who is interested to speak. Participants can choose to speak about anything… from technical know-how, to marketing your photography business, to sharing your experience about how you left your full time job to be a wedding photographer. Other interesting things that will be happening are like Pecha Kucha sessions, where you share 20 slides, each for 20 seconds, or a buy-sell session where everyone brings their second hand gear to sell.
How it All Started
Inspired by a techies gathering called Barcamp, Alex Lam (www.integricity.com) and Grace Tan (www.weddingstory.com.my) gathered a group of wedding professionals and shared the idea of an unconference with them. The first ShootFest meeting was held at a coffee outlet and 5 people met up to discuss ideas. Those who were present were Zach Chin (www.zachchin.com), Jon Low (www.idealwedding.net), Mark Leo (www.markleo.net/blog) and of course, Alex and Grace.
Everyone was really excited about the idea of sharing knowledge and networking with others. It was at this first meeting that the name ShootFest was determined, and that night itself the domain was purchased, and a Wordpress site set up. Others who couldn’t make it for the meeting due to geographical constraints were Ian Chong (www.eeyern.com/blog) and Lim Kee Sitt (www.weddingstory.com.my).
Latest Updates
From that first meeting, we have gathered a group of volunteers who have willingly availed themselves to help in any way. Word about ShootFest went out informally through forums, blogs, Facebook and Twitter. Over a short period of 2 weeks, we had 65 registrations. The cap on the total number of people would be around 80 due to venue restrictions.
Visit the ShootFest website: www.shootfest.org to get the latest updates, view the schedule, register and sign up for a speaking session. If you’d like to help out in any way, do email admin@shootfest.org. We gladly welcome volunteers.

His current day job entails managing Integricity Corporation which has since evolved in the last 9 years, from a webhosting company, into a full-fledged digital interactive agency, amongst other ventures. Today, Integricity makes waves primarily on the web when setting free new campaigns so they can soar higher and achieve quantifiable results.
Originally from Sarawak, she begins her journey as a fulltime photographer shortly after her own wedding, realizing the need to “settle down” after many years of intensive travelling during her career as a scuba diving instructress. She now lives in Selangor with her dedicated-loving husband and her newborn girl, Haley.

A year later, Fiona decided to turn her passion into her profession and pursued photography full-time. Currently, she is completing a Masters of Business Administration at the University of Nottingham Malaysian Campus. With three exhibitions in the US, Malaysia and Australia under her belt, she now plans to venture into commercial work in Malaysia and explore international grounds in Hong Kong and the US.
For this Sydney-Australian photographer, photography has hardly been an abstract pursuit in her life. With her father being an avid photographer engaging in travel photography, and with herself graduating from a 4-year degree in Graphic Design (at University of Technology, Sydney), then working in the design industry for almost 4 years, creative images have been an embedded feature of her life for as long as she can remember.
7-years on since those humble beginnings, with several camera changes, and a move from film to digital, Jenny Sun Photography is now a reality and not a dream - with her clientelle from Australia and South East Asia, Jenny has experience in working with people from both western and eastern cultures.
Johan’s vision is to introduce Malay Wedding photography to a new level by infusing art with elegance, capturing moments in a romantic, breathtaking, yet fashionable and highly memorable way.
His interest in movies turned to a passion, which led to a vocation, and then to MVA awards for editing in short films. He then turned his attention to photography, specifically in fine art, photojournalism, portraits and landscapes, and was pleasantly surprised when 4 of his works were accepted into the National Art Gallery in 2005 without much pestering. He is currently head of Revelation Visuals which does photo and video for events, weddings, corporate, commercial, fashion, and portraits. He lives in a quiet suburb of Shah Alam where squirrels run free and birds attempt to wake him, though he sleeps till 11am, with his dog, Winnie. All thanks and kudos to God.
Mark is currently working as a consultant in the consulting firm, Accenture, running projects for international clients and finds passion in the areas of knowledge transition, people development and people engagement. Key areas of focus would be on technical architecture, SAP, and specializes in transitioning from project to support.
Guidelines for speakers
April 26th, 2009 by TheBackpackr.com. Posted in ShootFest 001 | No Comments »
Bear in mind: A ShootFest is always about enriching each other, and not for personal gain alone.
If you wish to speak in a session, we thank you for doing so and spending time to prepare your content. However, please do abide by the following:
- Please do not overtly advertise your own products and services, this is not a time to market yourself, but rather the knowledge you have gained. You may introduce what you do and represent in your intro about yourself.
- Stick to the upper boundary for time, if you finish earlier, it’s fine. Everyone can spend some time to mingle. However, if your session will only be approx half an hour, let us know, so we can slot in another speaker in the same one-hour slot.
- If you have your own laptop, please make sure you bring any necessary dongles to connect your notebook to the projector (VGA port).
- A whiteboard will be provided, should you need.
- If you are not bringing a laptop, we will have laptops equipped with PowerPoint and Keynote, if you need any other software, do let us know in advance.
- Your slides will be placed on SlideShare so that others can download them. Please pass a copy to Zach Chin before you leave.
- Above all, keep it informal, have fun and don’t worry about making mistakes. You’re not the president of the United States (though I wish you were).
* A good place to be inspired for beautiful slides is Presentation Zen

ShootFests are always participant-driven, but we still do need to have some chief shepherds to steer the sheep, lest we all go astray. Here are some of the wonderful, wonderful people who have offered their time and effort to make this happen.
